Late 2009 27 iMac as a monitor for 2012 mbp?

Could i use a 2009 27 iMac as a display for my thunderbolt 13" 2012 mbp?

Would it work exactly like my current mbp/cinema display?

yep

It is my exact setting, you just need a mini displayport cable, but in case you don't know, you won't be able to use the usb ports of te iMac.

It is a very nice set up imo
