I have a WD NAS drive...it does not behave very well in OS X in that it appears / disappears / appears / so on when mounted via SMB...when discussing this issue with a WD Engineer it was strongly suggested that I mount the drive via AFP as it is -- at least for my NAS -- more reliable...
I took his advice to see whether it would be helpful in addressing a related problem and sure it enough it was...
The thing that surprised me is that when mounting the NAS drive via SMB I can use the administrator level user id and password that I created for myself....*BUT* when mounting the NAS drive via AFP I can only use the administrator level user id and password that came with the NAS [i.e. the one I created for myself does not work.]
Would someone be so kind as to explain this to me.
Thanks,
Joel
