Sorry about that
looks like a great value. i've had good experience with asus monitors. not sure if this one is an ips display.
i think you'll be able to find a number of asus, dell, hp, etc monitors that will satisfy your 2 monitors for $600 goal though. extras you pay for are ips, 1920x1200, stand that tilts/rotates/height adjustment, USB ports, brand name, etc.

Please excuse the beginner question. If the mac - mini is connected to a 1900x1200 monitor , and the graphics of the mini can only produce 1900x1080. will the image on the monitor always appear to be stretched?

Nope, but just got a new 23" ASUS VH232 off newegg for 159.00 USD. Its not a glossy display, but over all its great for the price. Shows 1920x1080 very nicely, has excellent vibrant color.
I have a 27" LCD also and its not a big deal at all. I am sure if someone went from a Retina display to a 27" they may complain. But over all its still very clear. Heck even on my 39" LED TV it displays reasonably good after adjusting the sharpness down. Thanks for the information. I did a fair amount of research this afternoon, and I believe I understand resolution somewhat better than I did before, but is there an appreciable difference in the size of text on a 24" 1920x1200 monitor, and the size of text on a 24" 1920X1080 or is it negligible?
Very clear, my only complaint is that I have got used to glossy screens and this one has the traditional antiglare roughness to the screen that makes bright whites seem glittery to me. But thats normal on all monitors with antiglare. I just know most mac users are accustomed to glossy screens that dont do this. I have got used to it also, but good this is I can leave my window open during the day and still read this screen compared to when I use my Macbook Air that reflects like crazy.. So nothing wrong with the monitor at all, just making the point its not a glossy screen incase your used to that. Thanks, i was just looking at that monitor, how does text look at arms length away?
