iMovie taking forever to import footage?

I'm trying to import some footage from my Canon Rebel T3i.
I set the import settings to "Original Size" and its taking about 3 hours to import about 30 seconds of footage. Is there a way I can speed this up??? Thanks!

Which Mac are you using? What year? 30 seconds on a 18MP camera is still a lot of data to process because it would be in the 300MB-1GB range. But you'll need to tell us how much RAM you have before we can really help you here.
