iCloud backup did not restore photos. Can I still get them back?

Recently lost my iPhone 4S, bought an iPhone 5, logged into my iCloud account, phone managed to restore my contacts and notes, but no pictures.

I have taken several new photos since that have been automatically backed up overnight by iCloud

Can I still recover my old photos?
