iPad Can I use Ipad and Apple cable as serial terminal?

I have been trying to diagnose a problem with a device that uses a USB port as a booting device. I was hoping that I might be able to use my IPAD to connect to the USB port on the device in question and analyse any output using some sort of terminal.
Does this even exist or am I barking up the wrong tree?

you might be able to but it would depend on the device and whether it was created with the ability to boot from an iPad in mind. And there would likely need to be some kind of app that could display the data to you.
