Mutiple tabs opening in Safari when ads hovered over

this is getting really annoying. On certain websites www.cnn.com for example, there are ads that when my mouse hovers over them, they instantly open a tab for that product. I can end up with tons of tabs open that I then have to go close.

Is there any way to prevent this?
