Late 2012 iMac Support for 64GB of RAM?

Per Apple and Intel's spec the iMacs for 2012 max out at 32GB.

I know there are no (1x16GB) 16GB SODIMMs being sold today to populate 4 memory banks but I find the thought enticing.

This thread came about as Apple & Intel often do not bother updating documentation unless these are to address a bug or govt regulation.

Well the processor supports 32GB - and you cannot support more than the processor can handle.

Based on docs found on the web, no. But based on past observation Intel does not test for future RAM on old products.

So for all we know today's processors can support (4x32GB) 128GB DDR3 RAM that sell for $200 2-3 years from today.

Officially the 2009 27" iMac did not support more than 16GB RAM, and people are happily running (and addressing) 32GB RAM in that system.
