Hello,
I have a problem. I bought an Apogee Jam to go with my IPOD touch 4G. Works great and has great sound but you can't charge the IPOD, IPHONE, IPAD while you are using it because the Apogee uses the 30 pin connector and also uses the ipods battery. So...you get an hour and a half of use and then it's back on the charger. The Apogee Jam has no way to plug up a charger to it.
Here is one device that looks promising but only works with passive 30 pin accessories. http://www.amazon.com/CableJive-dockStubz-Converter-Through-Adapter/dp/B003TJR2HS Here is the Apogee jam http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/jam.php

I have researched for two days and there is nothing I can find that will work. I ended up here on this website looking for the pin layout and figured you folks have more experience hacking one of these things. I went through several different ideas and have settled on this set up. I have a male to female 30 pin extension cord that I can use to splice this into. I think maybe it would work like this. Extension cord plugged into ipod, Apogee plugged into other end of extension cord. Extension cord split open and an apple USB sync cable sliced into appropriate wires in extension cord but I am not sure exactly which wires and if I need resistors ect. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Surely there is someone that has some answers.
This is a common complaint with this interface.

Request

Request I sent to Apogee tech support.

Trying to figure out how to charge ipod while using the JAM. Love the interface but need to figure out a way to charge while playing. Split apogee cord open and tapped in a usb cord to the black and red wires. That powers up the jam but no charging power to ipod. There is an extra blue wire in cable, don't know what it is for. I have not attempted tapping into the green and white wires. I know the ipods, iphones, ect require the data wires be tied to +5v and -5v with some simple resistors in order to get 2.8v and 2v on data wires to initiate a charge but I am fearful that if I do that it will roast the JAM. I think the blue wire has something to do with providing some sort of power but not sure what. Also noticed that there is no blue wire in the USB to JAM cable. Any insight would be much appreciated!
Thank you,
Thomas

Charging your iPod Touch while the Jam is connected is not supported. We cannot give any technical support on modifying or altering the cables or hardware from factory specifications.

We did find this product on amazon:
CableJive dockStubz+
This accessory is UNTESTED and therefore not officially supported.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!

Really fast response and was impressed by that.

I may order one of these and see if it will work. Will report back when I do.

I know I am having conversation with myself here on this thread but just want to document this whole thing for anybody else that may be looking for an answer to this problem.

----------

Found out what the blue wire is for. Accessory indicator/serial enable. Pin 21

Also found out the 30 pin extension cable I bougt doesn't have 30 wires, just four.

Peavey has the new ampkit link HD, which supports charging while playing, I'd like get one of those, just hate to spend another hundred. Plus I think the power supply is optional...of course....and another twenty bucks I'd say.
