I loaded several CD's onto my iTunes for my mother-in-law and created a playlist for her, and synced these to her iPod. Afterwards I deleted those Cd's from my library.

Today I added another CD for her and when I synced her iPod, all of those previous CD's I had deleted from my library were missing when her sync was completed. Do I have to always keep these CD's in my library? Thanks.

I don't think that will happen if you manually manage the iPod.

This is correct. You'll have to start over, but as long as you check off "Manage music & video" on the summary page, the music will remain even after its removed from your library. Also she'll be able to hook it up to another computer as well. Right now the iPod is synced to yours only.
