I am trying to restore iOS 6.1.4 on my iPhone 5 (US model A1428) due to some strange recent software glitches (the iPhone keeps reverting back to the home screen for no reason). Whenever I try to recover my iPhone, iTunes gives me an alert that says:

"The iPhone could not be restored. This device is not eligible for the requested build."

I am using the most recent update of iTunes 11.0.4. I have tried to recover the phone in both regular and DFU mode with absolutely no luck.

Does anyone have a way to resolve this issue? Thank you!

Try downloading the actual IPSW file and restore it manually.

Or google or search here how to fix your hosts file. There may be something blocking iTunes from verifying with apple servers.

There's most likely an A1429 ipsw on your computer.

Either delete that file so that it downloads the correct ipsw again or manually download it and shift+update/option+update your iPhone.
