When i embed a linked file in illuCS6 why (when embedded) the file doesn't it keep its name? Its name in the links tab, is left blank, making it impossible to know which file is liked!

Somewhere!
Not 100% sure this is correct, but I believe that when you place a PSD, EPS or AI file that can be edited within Illustrator, it will not place the name of the file only an image of the file in the Links Panel. If you place a PSD, EPS or AI file where you can edit the original file outside of Illustrator in another program such as PS, it will place the name in the Links Panel.

If I am incorrect, I hope someone will correct me and I will learn from it.

When you import a PSD file you have the option of Flattening the image or bringing it in Layers. What I should have said, if imported in layers it will make text editable where possible.

I have attached a psd file (compressed as zip in order to upload here) which when place it in illu and then embed it (using both ways as firedpt said), its name is lost! Please comment on this,i think we are getting there! ;)
