Here is a great article on how the battle currently raging over the 64-bit processor market.

The focus is mainly on how the introduction of Intel's Itanium will affect almost every major player in the server computing industry: IBM, AMD, Sun, HP, Dell, and Microsoft. (Apple, naturally, is left out as usual. )

That isn't something to get upset about. The enterprise is where the 64-bit CPUs are important and Apple is completely irrelevant there. You won't find Sony or Toshiba mentioned in the article either (except to mention Sony's PS using IBM's Power line).

Dell is only mentioned because they have their sights set on that market and if Intel can deliver, then Dell can storm in just like they did to their other markets. But if the Itanium is a flop or Intel cannot deliver on motherboard designs, then Dell has problems in that market because they don't do their own engineering.
