How to unzip rar files on the mac?

Hi im a brand new imac user and have only had my imac now for over 1 week.

I currently have about 5 rar files which need to be extracted in order to play them but im not sure on which program i should use.

i would be grateful for any advice.

The Unarchiver is a great app for this.

There's also Stuffit Expander – it's free and it'll unzip those rar files plus many more besides.

Here's a second shout out for UnRarx. Nice thing about this app is that if you have to unzip with a password, you can see what you type in the field. Makes things so much easier.

You cannot unzip a rar file, you can unzip a zip file, you can unrar a rar file, two different formats. try the command line command unrar, previous installation. freshmeat.net has most of them.
