Whats the difference between "empty" and "securely empty" the trash?

I really have no idea what so ever. i just know that secure empty trash takes longer :S

Important: Even after you empty the Trash, deleted files can be recovered using data-recovery software. To delete files so they can’t be recovered, choose Finder > Secure Empty Trash. Files deleted in this way are completely overwritten by meaningless data. This may take some time, depending on the size of the file.

Trash

Securely delete writes 0s over the files, so it takes longer but it is MUCH safer if ur paranoid. U don't need it unless u are a spy, work with the pentagon or if ur top secret 😉

cheers man . so ppl that say that mac's are rubbish because if you delete a file it can never be found again are wrong ! 😀

Correct - u can also use time machine (OSX 10.5) to recover files

People who say this aren't so much wrong as... erm, oh hell. Normal people consider the ability to permanently delete a file in a way that is irretrievable to be a feature of an operating system....
