You can try this application: http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec It does many diffferent document formats and is not just for photos. It is a command line app, but don't let that scare you - it's easy to use.

Jethryn Freyman macrumors 68020 Apr 3, 2009 #3 PhotoRec and TestDisk are good, and free. Data Rescue 2 is also good.
