Understanding the science behind it is great - but I can just imagine the first astronomers who saw the pic were absolutely baffled and awed.... this is the sort of thing that makes a job like that worth while. :D

I hope someone does an animation on this and shows it from a different perspective. It wouldn't be that hard, but it would be cool to see.

Haven't they decided to get as much out of it as possible? Didn't they recently extend its life?
