Where does iTunes store photos?

I restored my iPhone as new but created a backup before doing so. Without restoring again to get back my photos does iTunes have them stored somewhere? I'm on osx.

Only shows documents in the folder, no jpegs?

It does not back up jpegs in a way that you can retrieve them later, only when you restore your phone. Kind of like an encrypted backup.
