I have the gray Bookstand and it's starting to get a bit worn out. I was looking at the black version to replace it but from the reviews, that seems even flimsier than the gray version.

Is there anything out there similar (where you don't have to insert the iPad in like the Apple case) that is built better?

Was waiting on the V3 myself but I've just about given up. The JAVOedge Axis Case looks promising and has some similarities but waiting on some real world reviews.
It isn't really an alternative since it is a book jacket, not a case. When opened, there is nothing securing the iPad to the case.

Thank you, sracer, because you have managed to make me aware of my unease with the JAVOedge Axis. I also have described it as more of a book jacket than a folio in another thread. There is a positive review here: http://www.ebookreaderguide.com/2010...d-case-review/. I've also watched the company video: http://www.javoedgeblog.com/ .

It seems stable when functioning as a stand. And it is somewhat secured to the iPad in a way which allows it to be both a portrait and landscape stand. But I'm not sure how I will feel about it: Other cases are more folio-like vs JAVOedge Axis portrait mode function. That's mainly because my iPad isn't coming until next Monday.

I also have my eye on the reclusive Yoobao V3.
