This board still amazes me. People are complaining about this?

This is a GOOD thing. Apple's been lying to us with their bars for years. They're finally going to start telling us the truth about the signal we have. That's GOOD.

But people are complaining because it doesn't fix the hardware flaws? Guess what, it doesn't make burritos either! Or walk your dog!

So? It's still a positive change, even if it doesn't fix all your problems.

Haha, I almost laughed like crazy in my cube......
REP!

You know 2 million people? Awesome for you.

I dont recall saying I do. But dont you find it odd and a little bit more of a coincidence that it's not just one or two phones of my friends phones, but all.

Are we all just unlucky?

This is just ******** great. Went and bought sim free (read expensive) iPhone 4 32GB model which is worse in real world use (dropped calls anyone...) then my trusty old iPhone 3G S. Apple, its time to face the facts and do a recall. Bigger bars... Thats just epic failure...

and I have YET to have any problems with call reception!
What the hell is all of this about, and why has it become a nationwide issue?
so far as I can tell, a few cranks who probably work for Nokia are posting flames about their competition, and the rest of the world is eating it up.
I'll repeat, I've had my iPhone4 for almost a month now, and use it daily, with NO, ZERO, NADA, NILL, NOT ONE iOta of signal problems!

As far as I can tell, a few lucky people live somewhere with great reception and therefore have no problems with their iPhone 4s, and also have no compassion for those of us who do.

I don't care about the height. (Is it different? I can't even tell.)

I took the images from 4.1 and compared them to my 4.0 iPhone 4. I then did an opacity comparison and used the marquee tool to select the areas of each and color the difference in green. This is the result that I got, after blowing up the image x 4 so its easier to see. They have effectively made the smaller bar twice as tall! As tall as the old 2nd bar. Wow:

I am truly impressed by the number of Engineers on this thread this afternoon.

Impressive, isn't it? Almost rivals the number of Apple apologists. Almost.

My phone works perfectly and I don't work for Apple. I just don't bitch and gripe like a 3 year old who get's his/her pacifier taken away.

Nope... you just bitch at the people bitching about their non-functioning iPhone 4's....hehe :D

Why can't we all just be friends?

I'm wondering why Apple is following AT&T's algorithm for showing bars. What about OTHER carriers around the world. AT&T is not the center of the universe...

It's funny seeing the "I don't have this problem" people still shouting about it.

The antenna problems are a design flaw, and thus every phone has it. You do not have a special version of the phone, even if you haven't seen this problem. Stop kidding yourself. All the phones have an antenna flaw.

I see....

it's a static image that shows you are at full bars, all the time.

Well played...

thanks for your permission to be upset that i waited 5 hours in line for product that is suppose to work correctly out of the box...oh wait i wonder if im handling the box correctly... they have faulty hardware cold hard fact...

oh wait this just in:

4.1 Beta Software

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just installed the software, does not seem to fix the antenna issue.

Thank you, the most useful information on this topic. Even though "basic common sense" told me it wouldn't fix it, I was hoping Apple could pull some magic, as I don't think the iPhone 4 was built using "basic common sense". ;) Done with this thread.

My phone works fine. With a case, without a case, left hand, right hand, outside, inside, and upside down. It just works. I'm sorry if this is so hard for you to believe but it does.

I know. It's ridiculous, why cant people who dont have a problem realise that there are people out there that have a problem. And it's not limited to 1000 Macrumours members

You surely must be an unlucky group. My experience is so different. Seven of my coworkers, my wife, my son, son in law, daughters (3) all have iPhone 4s. Maybe we should head for Las Vegas because we must be very lucky. Not one of us has any of those problems you and your friends have. About these many folks you know who all have these issues, where do you live? Could it be you are not in an AT&T area? Something is funny there.

As far as I can tell, a few lucky people live somewhere with great reception and therefore have no problems with their iPhone 4s, and also have no compassion for those of us who do.

That's because I live in an area that has traditionally had marginal reception, and I have no compassion for you because I have yet to see any evidence for the effect you describe.
If you want compassion, might I recommend going to church?
