She didnt offer to replace it or you didn't ask?

Mine has a slight rattle with the sleep wake button but if I were to gently push it to one side, it'll stay in place and won't rattle. That is, until I press the button again.. The rest of the phone is perfect so I'm not going to risk trading it in for a different (possibly worse) problem.

Yeah, I asked if I could get it replaced. She told me she couldn't because it's cosmetic.

Do you have a bumper on?
My iPhone was making a tiny rattle noise with the bumper, but when I took it off it went away. It might be a loose volume or sleep button.

exchanged my ip4 yesterday because of "rattle"

i had a small rattle in the top left part of the phone. (supposedly something comes loose on front facing cam). anyways - im sharing this because i wasnt quite sure if theyd actually exchange mine for it.

but the guy grabbed it, shook it - and gave me a new one, no questions asked, done.

Mine has a slight rattle too when I shake it and hold it close to my ear. I think its normal and it doesn't seem to be affecting anything, so I'm not worried about it. Does your exchanged iPhone have any rattle?

listen forum hero - i made a quick reference thread for those who dont want to skim through 30 posts to get an answer on threads.

"Forum Hero"?

Lol!

I didn't have to skim through 30 posts. It took me, literally, 15 seconds to search and find an answer as to whether I could return for a rattle.

And I'm just busting your balls.

I had my first one replaced due to screen yellowing issues. The replacmenet had something that moved on the inside that the first one did not have. It was not the camera rattle I know they all have that.

I took it to the apple store and the guy opened it up. There is a double adhesive under the battery that keeps the battery from moving. On mine the adhesive strip had not had the backing removed on the battery side therrefore the battery just shook inside the phone. They peeled off the back and stuck the battery to it and it is now fine.

to the OP. you gotta understand the amount of just frivelous threads lately is just aggrevating. your thread does not really lend any further info other than you had a phone that did something you did not like and you exchanged it. Pretty much common sense.

Forum hero? Roto was just giving you a quick list of a handful of other threads that you could have done instead of cluttering the forum up with yet another unnecessary thread. You complain about having to sift through so many threads to find a useful one but your thread is an exact reason as to why we have to do that in the first place. It is you that felt the need to come here and "save us" with your useful tidbit of rattle issue exchange knowledge and thus it is you that should be labeled "Forum hero" by all of us.

Thank you forum hero!

So, in spite of what I said earlier, the rattle in MY phone was not normal. The camera can make a very quiet "click" if you move the phone in a certain way but it should not be noticeable at all during normal use.

My phone sounded like there was legitimately a screw rolling around in the camera lens or something. The Genius at the Apple Store had never heard of this issue before, but replaced my phone without any hesitation.

So who's going to whip up a "forum hero" wallpaper/logo/avatar/iPhone game/3d movie for us?

Definitely not the lens. It's the lock button without a doubt. I can press lightly on it, almost to the point of engaging it, and the rattle stops. It's just a total annoyance to have to hear that every time I bring the phone up to my ear.

this has been my experience as well. this is prob not worth trading in for another one that might have more serious problems though...plus i just put my SGP ultra oleo on today...

I had this same issue. Rattling noise when shaking the phone lightly or setting it down, by the lock button or camera.

Went to the genius bar tonight. He switched it out pretty quickly after verifying it in the back. My new phone does NOT have the same problem. (neither did a friends which was what prompted me to bring it in).

Annoyingly, when I restored my backup, I lost ALL my folders. The apps were just spread across 6 pages, I had to redo them all. :(

My sleep/wake button wiggles and rattles when I shake it but when I asked a Genius about it, they didn't seem to be familiar with the issue. The guy wiggled it around and gave my phone to his coworker to do the same and they dismissed it as a non-issue. I asked about it becoming a bigger problem in the future and they encouraged me to come back if the entire button fell off. Yeah...

I was wandering in to look at bumpers and only asked on a whim so hopefully they'll be more helpful once I make an official appointment. :(

I originally started this thread so I thought I'd update what happened. My rattle came from the speaker end of the phone, not the camera, and it sounded like a screw loose on the inside, though sometimes it was louder than other times. I brought it in, not hip to the fact that I needed an appointment, and so one of the clerks said I could make one at any of the display Macs. As luck would have it there was an open spot in just 10 minutes so I got to see someone that day.

The genius walked with me to the back of the store and he definitely heard something was wrong. So without further ado, with just a few minutes of paperwork, I had a new phone -- with no discernible rattle. If you are experiencing this, by all means, take it in for them to evaluate.

Same issue, small rattle. Sometimes you really have to shake it. I find it annoying because i shake to update facebook and some other apps and it makes it sound cheap.

Edit: I shook it from each side and it was loudest near the SIM card. Pretty sure its not seated tightly in there. Should I try to fix this myself or just deal with it?

I have a rattle also, coming from the rear camera. I can only hear it if it is set down on the counter or if I tap the back of the phone with my finger.

this is what I have

The Rattling noise when shacking

Hi Guys,
I have been having the same problem: when shacking the iPhone 4 i hear something loose moving inside. I have called apple and spoke to a technician as well as visited an apple store, and both have told me it is not normal.
My iPhone is now in repair, hopefully it will be nothing major...

I had some rattle out of no where (week into owning the phone) I figured out that the power/screen lock button on the top right of the phone had become slightly loose and was making the noise. The button works fine and the noise goes away if I hold the button down while shaking so I'm not worried in the least bit.

I am wondering that if this looseness equates to the button falling off some day if that would be covered as a repair by applecare.

There was a rattle in my phone too. So I decided to take the bottom two screws off and remove the back. Low and behold a tiny screw dropped out. I think I can see where it goes, but I would have to take the whole thing apart to get a screwdriver in there. I figure it's not too important as everything is working fine. But the thing is now I hear another rattle toasted the top of the phone.

Stop talking about auto focus, volume, and other things.
Recently i had teardown my iphone 4 with this rattle noise.
When my phone was totally disassembled exсept power and silent switch - the noise was still HERE! This is POWER BUTTON noise and nothing else.
Everybody - try to press and hold POWER tightly than usual - and you found silence.
