Why does my Display & Keyboard Brightness keep changing?

I just got a new MBP this week and curious as to how/why my display brightness, along with the brightness of the backlit keyboard keep changing without me doing anything?

Am I missing a setting here? I assume it's auto changing depending upon the lights in here.

the little circle on the left of your webcam is a ambient light sensor. take a flashlight or your thumb, and shine / cover the light. It will change your keyboard and screen brightness according to what it thinks is a good setting. See above to turn that off.

I know I turned it off at first, but I actually like it now.
