Power Macintosh 8100/100 and a PC Monitor

Use the Monitors control panel to change your resolution.

Your Mac to VGA adapter is probably locked at 640x480

Your Mac to VGA adapter, is probably set internally to work only at 640x480. Many were like this and were sold very inexpensively because of this. The only way to get a higher resolution will be to purchase an adapter that is configurable (via DIP switches or some other means). See: http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=50050802&pfp=srch1 I have this and it works well. You can also find it elsewhere (check eBay) for less $$$.

If your 8100 has only internal (built-in video), you should consider going on EBay and finding an HPV (high performance video) PDS video card and also get 4mb total VRAM SIMMS to get 1024x768 at millions of colors (also using a configurable adapter, like the Belkin above). It just depends how much you want to spend on an this older system.
