While I love this new iTunes, I must say I'm absolutely underwhelmed by Ping. I do not see a future for this.. it will never be as good as Facebook/Twitter in the social networking department, and it can't touch last.fm when it comes to linking you up to likeminded music fans and band suggestions.

Maybe Ping will one day shape up to be a dominant force, but I'll admit I'm pretty pessimistic this will take off.

It's for iTunes Store users, so it's not going after Last.fm or Assbook.

Can I somehow remove those arrows to iTunes store, when a song title is selected in list view?

Weird how they've chosen to make the traffic lights appear sideways unlike virtually all other applications on OSX. Also the bizarre 'shiny metal' volume slider button looks ***** and completely out of place. Really getting a bit disheartened with the direction Apple is taking of late. It's like they've just gotten a few amateurs to sling some ****** UI elements together and it's job done.

Whilst I'm on the subject the icon looks like it belongs in Jaguar or Panther, not at all in keeping with Snow Leopard or the UI on the app itself.

Functionally, only found one improvement. Namely this:

Sync is incredibly Fast now on my iPod Touch

I even had seven apps to update and it did the sync in one quarter of the time it usually took.

I really wish though I could increase the fonts size in iTunes since I view my iMac from about four feet away usually and can increase the font size in safari and other applications.

look in the general section of the preferences pane. Change the source text and list text to large. :apple:

Got it...works well...Ping, not so sure, like the album view, icon is lame...

I've created a new icon, you may not like it any more than the current one but it feels more Apple than the real icon, at least to me. I've created PNGs and an .icns file.

For those that don't know how to replace it. Right click on the iTunes app in the Finder, not the dock, select "Show Package Contents," navigate to "Contents > Resources" and replace the iTunes.icns file with the one in this zip file.

Apple, please, bring back resume playback of playlists on Mac, which was available NINE years ago (2001) on SondJam MP 2.5.3, from where iTunes was developed. Thanks.

After playing with it briefly:

dislikes:
-the monochromatic source icons in the sidebar do look dull
-the new app icon is definitely lame and uninspired, especially for Apple
-the traffic signal? ugh.
-overall, the UI, which was never cohesive to begin with, now seems even more half-baked.
-not much room saved atop by flipping the window buttons and eliminating the window title

likes:
-list view is a bit more legible
-snappy

indifferent
-the volume slider now resembles an actual slider
-the song name, artist, and album are now displayed simultaneously up top; before, one had to click to toggle between artist and album

I haven't upgraded on my main boot drive to see whether the Finder artwork bug has been fixed. Anyone?

I'll remind everyone that the third menu item in the iTunes menu is "Provide iTunes Feedback." You guys know what to do.

Meanwhile, some of the changes can apparently be reversed:

COLORS!

I hate the lack of colors in iTunes 10, so I did a little ThemePark rsrc hacking and put the colored icons from 9.2 back into 10. It's not perfect, but I didn't want to waste too much time on it, and it looks alright on my computer for the icons that I use regularly.

Download (zip, 11.1mb)

Instructions included.

Enjoy, and feel free to let me know if you see an icon that should be fixed—I didn't check that they all look normal. :p

- Small size only.
- Some may be broken.
- No guarantees.

Just checked and
It already was on large.
Just wish I could make it a little larger like I can we safari.

Thanks for the tip though.

iTunes X was the Apple internal code name for the first iTunes version for Mac OS X (ported from Mac OS 9), so that would be a bad idea.
Why? Internal code names are just that, internal code names. Sometimes they reappear as product names, sometimes they don't. Either way, Jo Public doesn't know or care about codenames, and Apple employees are hopefully smart enough not to get confused with something they did ten years ago.

Just thought I'd mention that I'd rented a movie yesterday on iTunes. After downloading iTunes 10 today, all the icons on the left are grayed out EXCEPT for the rentals icon, which shows up as a red ticket.

I know that the rental icon only shows up when you actually rent something anyways, but is it possible that the icons become colored ONLY when there is something to be notified of? This is something that Johnny Ive has mentioned in 'Objectified' btw.

Has anyone noticed a colored icon effect in the case of a notification?

fantastic

it looks bloody brilliant. Grey is the new black. Was so used to it, that i had forgotten how ugly those godawful colours looked.

It is an american thing i presume.... Yanks love all those little colours (see windows)...

the next step is all grey icons on my iOs.

Just great.. they removed the quick search from the Sync Apps tab. It was the only sane method for me to quickly find and add apps to my iDevice. Sorting through 700 non-cached entries is quite a bit more difficult and time consuming. This is one thing they should not have removed "to make things simpler"!

+1. I like the new look.

Just found it by accident... if you click the drop down on the top left column you can click Small, Medium or Large. I put large and dragged it all the way to the left so I only see the album cover. Good enough I guess

LOL, I did this, too. I never much used that view, but I liked having the option and now I miss it. I honestly don't remember what view I liked in iTunes 9. I think I honestly haven't been satisfied with iTunes UI since iTunes 7, or whatever version this picture shows:

I miss that look. :(

I decided to go the super-minimalist route for now, since it hides most of the weird new UI. It reminds me of "the old days," when I discovered iTunes was for Windows, too. Back when it was basically just list view, or at least, that's all I knew about. I kind of prefer this, it makes me focus on the songs rather than all the flashy toys (cover flow).

I have a question: Some people here have mentioned going to View > Always Show Album Art (or something like that). That's not an option for me at all. Are you on Windows or something?

You can.

Go into iTunes preferences and there are two check boxes.

One, if I remember, changes source list font size (the info on the left of iTunes) and the other changes list size (the song info when listed). The two choices are small and large.

Edit: Just noticed someone already suggested this. Sorry!

Two things to Apple

1. The new ICON is ugly - look like a rip off from Windows!

2. The maximize, minimize buttons are -- out of standard? they are vertical instead of all other OS X apps - consistency?

Just my thought.

New icon is obscene, looks like it's from some shoddy Windows program. I had to change it immediately.

Do not like the vertical lights either but the rest of the changes seem fine so far.
