so wait ping doesn't track what you play?, or even use it to build a profile of what you like eg: last.fm, I thought steve said it would. I don't want to go through every artist/album I like in the iTunes store and click like, once the novelty wears off I'm not sure how much I will be bothered to use it now :(

The vertical buttons and the ugly icon are actually the least of iTunes 10's problems. When in the "Album List" view, all albums that have less than "x" tracks (let's say "x" for now, cause I haven't actually discovered that number yet) do not appear with an album cover. Yup. Meaning that, when you have, say, a band with many releases, and you have some of their albums and singles, the singles' artwork simply WILL NOT APPEAR. And even if you SEARCH for this SPECIFIC single on the search, you get it with NO COVER, and there's no option to disable this kind of behavior! That's why I'm switching to Grid view for now.

Huh. Sadly Ping doesn't look as good as it sounded... I thought I could post what I'm listening too now.... And maybe post video links etc with YouTube Music Videos. Shame!
Maybe they'll keep adding things...

After installing iTunes 10, it came up with an error reading my iPod Touch. Now I have to reset it back to factory settings. What a pain in the ass.

First attempt, link said iTunes 10, but installed 9. Second attempt worked. Except for the new icon, it still looks about the same at a glance.

I think that it is still a bloated piece of crap. It is (as it has been) laggy even on a high end windows machine.

If you think it looks the same, it's time for an opticians appointment...

Gotta say that I'm not really a fan of the new bar that shows how much space etc is on your iPod.

I can only assume that then we see the next OS update the alterations in iTunes will make more sense. Time will tell.

My iTunes won't open. I get an unexpected error every time. Already hate it.

Tried reinstalling it. didn't work..

What's so funky about the volume bar? It's just a few pixels thicker (and I personally think it looks better), I mean honestly, of all things to complain about

Apple could give away free cash and people would complain. Everyone says they want change, that they want it to be faster launching, more responsive, for the aesthetic to be streamlined. This is now done, so they need something else to complain about.

Got it. I don't like how it's all black and white. I like the colors. Also, I used to use the list view with all albums shown on the left and thats gone it appears. Not to complain to much haha but those are my only issues.

You do know you can move the columns in the views around?

Weird how they've chosen to make the traffic lights appear sideways unlike virtually all other applications on OSX. Also the bizarre 'shiny metal' volume slider button looks ***** and completely out of place. Really getting a bit disheartened with the direction Apple is taking of late. It's like they've just gotten a few amateurs to sling some ****** UI elements together and it's job done.

Yeah the vertical traffic lights look stupid. Fortunately you can easily set it back to horizontal. Open up a terminal and write:

Code:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes full-window -1

OMG, I love you!

Do you know of any other terminal tweaks to itunes? That would be a good forum sticky for the 90% of us irritated by it.

I am fine with everything except one, the moving of the Close, Minimize, Expand buttons, why? 10 years of OS X, with the buttons in the same place, and Apple moves them.

Well actually it's been that way since iTunes 2 (on Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar) just in mini view. If you ever pressed the green button you would know that.

Why did you have to show that image? I miss brushed metal so badly!

I think we need a thread devoted just for tweaking iTunes 10. Whoever gets brushed metal up gets a free hug too.

Anybody else notice how out of place the iTunes icon now looks sat in the dock?
Guess this is what the new iLife iWork 10/11 UI will look like.

As for Ping Ive had a look, filled in my details followed LadyGaga and the novelty has worn off already. Not really that worthy of an addition. But hey thats just me Im sure others will love the new feature. I would have preferred wireless syncing to my iPhone.

The thing for me is that iTunes seems to still lag with a massive library.... And whats with the vertical min max buttons? Again this is a sneak peak of what to expect from Mac OS in the near future. The new grid view that Steve banged on about doesnt work as pointed out in previous posts.

Overall though its still iTunes we know and to be fair it does work.

not a fan of the grey'd out buttons, Ping can suck it. Otherwise I like what I've found so far, the controls on Album Art thing is neat.

Honestly, i can get used to the interface tweaks that are all over the place. What i can't get over is how iTunes is turning into everything and a kitchen sink. Not to mention the fact that the books section in iTunes still makes no sense whatsoever. Im not sure what is going on in camp iTunes over at apple, but either this is just an interim release to tide us over and they are working on a ohmygood release down the road or they have completely lost touch.

Personally i think this is an interim or maintenance release, it has that fell to it, nothing major changes, they just release new versions to keep up with the release of new IOS devices.

I'm fine with almost all of the new changes except for vertical traffic lights and the UGLY Volume slider. Absolutely horrendous from a design standpoint.

If you want to restore your traffic light buttons to where they should be:

Code:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes full-window -int -1

Much better this way.

Dumb question: pull up the album art panel and double click it whie playing music. Place your arrow over the window. A title bar and controls appear ala Quicktime X! I love this!

...Was this in the old version, because I never used that feature before.

Thanks for letting us know ! How did you find out about it ?
Is there any other hidden function in this upgrade

Well, never mind me if I'm wrong, but does anyone here notice the audio quality is a bit different now ? It's a little better imo.

Boo Hiss, Apple! A music player needs to be 64-bit.
Why?

There are a ton of sites that host older versions of software, including iTunes. If its really that big a deal then go fetch 9.2.1.
I have a folder on a secondary hard drive I copy installers over to once I've used them, so if I ever have to reinstall something I already have it downloaded, and when I get a new version I don't throw out the installer for the last version I used, but keep it as well. That way, if the new version has some bad bug or I just don't like changes made I can just uninstall it and reinstall my old version.

I don't know if this would work so well with iTunes, though. Since it's almost part of the system software and "updates" your library when a new version is installed I can see it saying that it can't read my library file because of the updates and then I can either stay with the newer or have to rebuild all my playlists and re-rate all my songs.

Yes I know, I would argue that it has always been incorrect but this exception could be overlooked for the added convenience of having a minimal controller view. It is not the same as having it on a main window.

Personally I think Apple should obey their own HIG:
http://developer.apple.com/mac/libr...ppleHIGuidelines/XHIGWindows/XHIGWindows.html

On its own this is a tiny thing that I don't really care about, but it seems symptomatic of how Apple seems to be missing their attention to detail with OSX these days.

Thanks for that!
