I got a problem and I hope that someone can help. I want to get an Apple TV so I can listen to I-tunes music over my home theatre setup. I current have an HK receiver with 4 HDMI ports. Each port is used (Directv box, blue ray player and xbox 360 along with a HDMI cable from the reciever to the tv) but I still want to stream music. I thought about hooking up the apple tv to one of my TV HDMI ports but don't know if that would work as far as the sound being able to play through my system.

Any suggestions or advice?

You could run the hdmi cable from ATV to your TV and then run a digital optical cable to your receiver. I don't have hdmi on my receiver so I do that for my Cable DVR and my Blu Ray. A new hdmi receiver is on my wish list though. :)

you could get an hdmi switch as stated.

you could plug the hdmi in the tv for video and use the optical out for audio to your stereo.

if you only want audio, you could just get an airport express. they are the same price, so it would depend if you wanted video more or extended wireless coverage in your house.

HDMI Switch from monoprice.com

Agree...

Monoprice has two different options (powered and nonpowered). I don't have either so I cannot give my opinion, but from the reviews it looks like the nonpowered is hit or miss. Powered however seems to get really good reviews.
