Root path in Mac

Hi...

I am a newbye over MAc...

On Java, sometimes it happens to place all my job on root (WIndows C:\)

Here on MAc what is the equivalent path??

Maybe this a silly quetsion or maybe it is place d in thr wrong forum.

Forgive me for both.

Anyway, if someone can help i would aprreciate very much.

Macintosh HD could be considered the equivalent to C:/, as Macintosh HD is the name (given my Mac OS X, you can change it) of the volume on the HDD Mac OS X resides on on new Macs.
The folders in this path are Library, Applications, Users and System and some others, that are hidden.

The root path in Mac OS X is '/'. For example, the global Applications folder is located at '/Applications'.

That is not the root PATH.

The path of what you're mentioning is "/Volumes/Macintosh HD".

The root path is /

Yes, OS X is unix, and like all other *nixes the logical root is /

Unlike Windows there is a clear separation of the logical layout of the file system and the physical layout of the file system.

You'll find that layout to be infinitely superior. It's one of the main reasons I refuse to ever use a windows box again.

What i ment by root path (WIndows C:\) is the local disk c:\

Maybe that was a mistake.

Nevertheless, i think that both Macintosh HD/ ot simply / replace the C:\ .

Am i right?

If you have to write a path, you have to write / for the root.

If you have to write only the path for a disk X, it is /Volumes/X

But a disk can be mounted to other directories, so that you don't need to start your path with /Volumes/diskname

The boot disk is mounted on /
