Apple Seeds Mac OS X 10.6.5 Build 10H571 to Select Developers

MacRumors has received word that Apple today seeded a new version of Mac OS X 10.6.5, termed Build 10H571, to select developers for testing. The release comes as Apple this week wrapped up work on iOS 4.2 with the golden master being seeded to iOS developers on Monday. No details on any changes in the latest build have yet been revealed.

Mac OS X 10.6.5 is required to support the AirPrint functionality being included in iOS 4.2, and thus the two releases are expected to see a public release at roughly the same time, although Apple has so far only indicated that iOS 4.2 will drop sometime in November. But with the golden master of iOS 4.2 already finished, it appears likely the public release will occur sooner rather than later, which suggests that today's Mac OS X 10.6.5 build could be one of the last testing versions or even the final build to be released to the public.

Mac OS X 10.6.5 Build 10H568 was released to developers one week ago. Curiously, Apple just yesterday seeded the first developer build of Mac OS X 10.6.6, despite the fact that 10.6.5 has yet to be released to the public. Details on Mac OS X 10.6.6 suggest that it may be a relatively minor update to support Apple's forthcoming Mac App Store.

I noticed an update to HP Printer drivers today too - so far I think its just HP that supports AirPrint without sharing a printer via the network...

It will if you have a select HP printer that supports it. If not, and the majority won't, you share your printer through the Mac (and I'm guessing Windows too) for the iPad to print.

I'm not too keen on AirPrint going through Print Sharing on a Mac! My home hub is run by a 2.0ghz dual core Power Mac G5 running Leopard. Snow Leopard is running on my laptop which I keep closed when not in use.

work FASTER... but make it work right. dont need my new iMac dying from an update like the old eMacs did.

These developers are having a grand time with this, I'm sure. While beta software is typically stable, there are bugs, hence the name of beta. iTunes 10.1, two Mac OS X version, 7 iOS 4.2 GM devices, the GM SDK, on top of who knows what else, this is going to be an overload in Software Update when these things all come together.

This will convince me to hackintosh my old Dell desktop hiding in the corner, just to use it as a printing gateway. Other usefulness will be arguable, but just being able to use AirPrint will make me do this.

I think the thing that's causing most headaches at the moment is LLVM compiler for XCode 4.0. Once that's done, we're gonna see a surge of recompiled apps, which will run faster.
