Hi, can anybody recommend a parental control option to limit access to adult sites for my sons 4G iPod Touch?

Not trying to be rude, but I can't help noting the irony that a user whose handle is fluffer wants to limit porn access.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.... fluffer's an old handle from something other than those individuals whose task it is to maintain somebodies bodily status but nicely spotted!

This is the surest way to do it for home, but it may vary depending on what brand of modem you have.

  1. Open any browser on your computer
  2. Go to http://192.168.0.1
  3. Navigate to a settings page
  4. Find a tab labeled 'Access Restrictions'. There should be a tab labeled with this or something similar on every modem.
  5. Enter restrictions by site, keyword, or preference list (some of these are available online)
  6. Exit the session. Make sure your modem is password-protected

The alternative, of course, is to put a more do-or-die policy up for him and block Safari from the device at the first sign of trouble.

Futility

Most of the time this is a exercise in futility. What I would do is install a browser history app and check and see where your scion has been surfing. most any filter can be bypassed but the threat of losing the Touch if you find out he has been where he should not have been might just work better for you. In the meantime go into the parental controls and set things up there to suit. To quote President Regan "Trust but verify" :)

Try Mobicip

We have been using a service called Mobicip and have been quite happy with it. It does exactly what you describe - offer a filtered web on the iTouch. Note that it doesn't filter Safari itself but since Safari can be locked out using the restrictions feature, Mobicip will be the default browser available. Check it out at http://www.mobicip.com. We signed up for the premium level for better control and monitoring ability.
