Yes there is. Launch native Mail app on your iOS device, iPhone in this case, tap Edit in top right corner, and select Unread for type of inboxes.

As far I recall this has been true since iOS 6 till present - iOS 9.0.2.

In that case it seem like it wasn't the case back in 2010 when this thread was created and finished with.

Waw! I didn't know that either! great one!

I have another question for this in the apple mail app. It always opens in the first inbox, not in the 'unread' or 'today', which is kinda annoying. is there a setting that can change that too? :)
