iPod ipod Classic and SSD retrofit

Has anyone here fitted an SSD to their iPod classic? I see 1.8" SSD's available all the way to 256 GB in size. They all have a SATA interface though. I know the older iPod's used PATA drives, I don't know about the newer ones. Anyone know?

I have a huge music collection. Many hundreds of CD's. I keep them all stored in iTunes in Apple Lossless format. I have the 160 GB iPod, but it isn't big enough. It would be awesome if I could stick a 256 GB SSD in there, that would be big enough, plus it would make the device more shock resistant and durable.

So nobody knows whether or not the 160 GB iPod Classic uses a PATA or a SATA drive? :confused:

Looks like a no-go then. Every 1.8" SSD I can find is SATA. :(

Prediction: iPod Classic stays unrefreshed for another year or so, until it is replaced by iPod Classic SSD model, in 128 GB and 256 GB capacities. :)

Hint. MBAs use(d) a 1.8" PATA SSD. :D

Price is a bit inibitive; 128GB = $369.99 Would cost less to get a whole new iPod lol.

It'd be more cost effective to just upgrade the hard drive to 240GB [I think there was a 320GB at one time] if you have a old 2007 160gb classic, 5G 60GB, or 5.5G 80GB.

Though there is a guy on this board I believe that did swap out the hard drive for a SSD and he loved it.

I took my 5.5 gen 80GB with a broken hard drive and swapped it out with a 240GB drive, but due to limitations in the firmware [no artists listed in song lists, no quick shortcuts like the latest 120GB - 2008/160GB - 2009/2010 classic models] I chose to use it for my iTunes videos so I can watch them on my TV and still use my 2008 120GB classic for my main music player.
