USB Hub causing crashes?

1.8 20" iMac G5
Standard 4 port Belkin USB 2.0 Hub
keyboard, mouse, cannon scanner and printer plugged into hub, powermate plugged into keyboard.

When waking from sleep (This only happened twice) computer froze fans came on full blast. After hard reboot, no response from Keyboard, Mouse or powermate. Unplugging the hub and plugging it back in wakes up all devices.

Is the hub defective, is it the model or do all USB hubs act this way?

It's my father's iMac....I'm going to recomend he disconnect the hub...although there is no sure fire way to reproduce the issue and the computer was fine for about a month without this little bug....but it happend twice in the last 3 days.

If it is the hub are there any other good usb 2.0 hubs out there not made by Belkin?
