You need a P-ATA (IDE) 2.5" HDD, though 320GB seems to be the maximum: http://eshop.macsales.com/Search/Se....5+hard+drive&Ntk=Primary&Ns=P_Price|0&N=6885

The downside is taking apart the iBook, which is not an easy feat.
The RAM (1.5GB) has nothing to do with being able (or not) to upgrade your HDD.

I don't know of a downside, except maybe less battery life, but since 320GB might be the biggest 2.5" P-ATA HDD out there (take a look), there is no way to get a bigger HDD than that.

there is another thing to consider and thats the height !! some 2.5" drives are higher which means not enough cooling for the harddrive which could lead to a early death of the same because of the airflow inside the iBook
i would just use a external drive for storing data and leave the internal just for the OS and apps then you can use a firewire 7200rpm drive with 1.5 terabyte

I thought G4s had a limit of 120 Gb for an internal HDD, or is that just for the older G4s?
