Could you let me know what to do with TinyUmbrella please? I have it, but I only know how to use it to exit recovery mode lol.

I just called The Westin's engineering guy to bring up a bunch of small screwdrivers to my room to try & take the battery out, got the bottom two out, and couldn't pop the face, I was afraid I was going to cause even more damage lol.

WTF are you doing? Why would taking the battery out solve this problem? Why don't you just throw your iPhone on the wall and hope it works?

It's call SHSH. SSH is another thing. If you don't even know all these stuff then i suggest you to go read more information before JBing. Lack of knowledge made you screw up your iPhone.

lol. Thanks for the wisdom & help.

Someone SUGGESTED I remove the battery like another link here in the forum did because it got the phone out of the loop.

I've jailbroken an iPhone 3G & my iPhone 4. I made the mistake of not reading a lot of other posts & accidentally upgraded baseband NOT ON PURPOSE on this 3GS that already came with 4.2.1.

I clearly don't know what I'm doing, hence, I'm asking for help. Isn't that what this forum is for??? Geez

First, make sure this line is in your hosts file:
74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
The hosts file is found at "C:\System32\drivers\etc\", and can be edited with Notepad.

Next, make sure iTunes is closed, and start TinyUmbrella. Hit the "Start TSS Server" button. Then run Redsn0w with the "Just enter pwned DFU mode right now" box checked, hold shift while clicking restore in iTunes, and select this firmware. If the restore completes with no errors, run Redsn0w with the "Install Cydia" box checked. Once that's done, turn off the phone and run Reds0w with the "Just boot tethered right now" box checked.

If all of that doesn't work, try following the other guide I linked to earlier:

1) Connect the phone to my computer. I connected it turned off. I will refrain from using terms like DFU because I personally don't understand those terms myself.
2) Start Tinyumbrella. It might detect the device or it might not. Hit start TSS server. Now leave tiny umbrella alone and minimized.
3) Start iReb. I selected 3Gs and it did its "searching dfu" thing and found my iphone and my iphone turned on. Leave iReb minimized now.
4) Meanwhile, iTunes might have turned on and detected the device in recovery mode or whatever and asked you to restore it right away. Don't panic, just close iTunes at this point.
5) After doing the iReb and Tinyumbrella steps, go and turn on iTunes. This step is very important. You have to make sure that iTunes is turned off while you do the Tinyumbrella and iReb steps and only turn it on after those steps are complete.
6) In iTunes, click Shift+Restore and select the custom 4.2.1 ipsw file. iTunes will detect the file and start installing the software. In my device, it finished installing and veryfying and stuff and everything went well. But, after everything was done, for some reason, my iphone just wouldn't start.
7) I started redsn0w and selected the original 4.2.1 firmware (not the custom one...the original one you can download it from anywhere). I checked on Install CYDIA and it didn't do it the first time but it worked the second time.

Keep in mind once you do all this your phone will have a tethered jailbreak. You'll need to boot it using Redsn0w every time you turn it off. It will just stay on the Apple screen otherwise.

Ok this got me the furtherthest I have been able to get my phone. both of those 4.2.1 programs seemed to register with my computer this time. Only in iTunes when I tried to restore, it took a really long time saying it was restoring, only to come back with an error 1604, then when I tried again starting with redsnow it got stuck on the screen that says

"Please wait while your device is being procecessed.

Exploiting with limera1n"

The bar is completely full, but no next button comes on at all, I let it sit while I slept, still no progress.

When I just tried to restore this morning again in iTunes I got an error 1600 pretty fast.

I ran TinyUmbrella like you said, I know its really long & I do not know if it helps but here are the logs:

Thank you again for your help. Last time I was in TinyUmbrella all it would say is discovered a device in DFU, nothing more.

If the phone cant be turned on, take it into an Apple store. If under warranty, they'll swap it out. If not, they will offer you a 3GS for 79 dollars. This seems to be your best option. Yeah, you're out 80 bucks, but with all the time you've wasted, plus updated the phone's baseband permanently, it's worth it at this point.

It is in DFU mode, i only switched between that, an Apple screen & DFU mode. Still cannot tunr on or off, is there a way if I just keep clicking it on throughout the day in my pocket into the RM that the battery will die & let me restore iTunes? Sorry if thats a stupid question, I just have no idea.

Thank you all SOOOOO much for your help, truly.

I added a line so I got it for $49. I have no clue what they will make me pay if I broke it to get a new one. It's because they are already having the iPhone 5 set to come out in the summer sometime, they are probably just trying to get rid of their older models now.

You mean they are selling 3gs out of Apple WITHOUT a contract for $79??? Sign me up!

If you already have a 3GS, and it's out of warranty, Apple will offer to replace it for $79, contract free. Similarly if you have an iPhone4 that you damage or is out of warranty, you can buy a new one for 199.

In both cases they take your old phone.

3GS Tethered Jailbreak 06.15.00

I followed these direction from another post, and it worked. Your phone will be tethered, but it'll work. Just be sure not to power off or let your phone die.

"After 2 hours of trying I've figured it out. This community helped me so I figure why not help them back.

This is how to restore your iPhone 3GS 4.2.1 with the iPad baseband without receiving an error on iTunes. All credit goes to member Lense on thread https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1057032/ post 17.

Basically you'll need
redsn0w 0.9.6b6 (version I used)
Apple iPhone 4.2.1 firmware http://appldnld.apple.com/iPhone4/06...a_Restore.ipsw
and a custom restore image http://www.megaupload.com/?d=6JVZF92E

( Reason for this separate post was for awareness and translation to the English language a tad more clear)

Use redsn0w and click Browse ( find the firmware image you downloaded from Apple) Select Yes ( at least I had to)

In redsn0w select Next

In that screen check the box that says "Just enter pwned phone in DFU mode"

Phone will now have a black screen, do not worry it's in DFU mode if you followed the steps correctly.

Open iTunes, hold the option key (Mac) and select the custom recovery image we downloaded through Megaupload

Your phone should now be restored to 4.2.1 and should boot up to something besides the iTunes logo.

Use redsn0w again select Apples firmware, this time ONLY select the option to install Cydia.

Follow the steps, it will take a while for it to completely boot up.

If you get a white icon for Cydia like I did, use redsn0w, browse for the ipsw from Apple, this time select "Just boot tethered right now"

Hopefully this helps some of you."

I got stuck in a similar situation where my old 3Gs got stuck in a recovery?DFU, loop, in which my battery would die and i couldnt restore anything also it wouldnt take charge because of the loop. I tried everything, i mean everything, this was over x-mas this year. i worked on it for 6-8 hours a day for 3 straight days. finally, i thought to my self, it wont take much charge for the 3-4 minutes it is out of the loop, trying to boot bc the screen is on, using that power. So i took the screen off and waited about 10 minutes and heard the sound. U know, the sound when your iPhone is off and and you plug in the charger and it comes back on. As soon as i heard that, i knew i was in. I finally after literally damn near 36 straight hours of work got it to work. Now the only problem is, since upgrading to ios 5, it wont hold a charge past 90ish percent and it cuts off and goes into recovery. Im hoping a battery change will fix it. Ive found some threads on apple support communities saying that this is the only way some people were able to get there phone to make it through a day with out powering down into a recovery state many times a day. i can leave the phone plugged in, and use it for 24 straight hours without problems. but as soon as the charger is unplugged....Done-zilla
