this is funny. it is a fake, people. macbook pro doesn't even use intel HD 3000 (back in 2007 or something). plus, there is no share or dedicated graphic card on spec? what's even obvous fake is that port shape is totally different from other news on macrumors.com. lightpeak is very similar with USB shape. take a look at macrumors.com homepage about lightpeak news.

It ain't fake dude.

this would really be a disappointment...

so the big upgrades are:
- a new yet-to-be-industry-adopted cable jack
- hd facetime camera... which is useless for those of us who dont have T3 connections on both ends
- slightly more graphics memory
- slightly faster RAM

......

big whoop... i was hoping for:
- higher-res display
- SS-*****-D
- faster processor maybe, instead of a SLOWER one

That is a faster processor. The clock speed (GHz) isn't comparable between two different processor types.

Obvious it's fake. Look at the picture to the left. Two pictures cut together, or a really crappy cam =)

lol ok, this sucks.

Thinking of the fact that all those entry level notebooks will be getting the same graphic performance and the rest of the specs are almost equivalent to the 2010 model, i'd rather spend my money on a pc laptop. disappointing.

Notice that the image also mentions a HD-facetime-camera.

I am glad I am not the only one. Everyone focusing on old news about the LightPeak port with the new Apple name. I am glad that HD is finally making its way to Facetime cameras. This will be a solid update across the board.

Although I'm not convinced by these images, it's not unreasonable to think that Apple may have found a way to integrate Light Peak into the existing mini-display port to avoid having to cram in an additional port. I guess we'll all know for certain pretty soon..!

no 7200 rpm hard drive? my 4 years old white macbook with a hard drive upgrade to a 7200 rpm hard drive start up faster than my sister macbook pro that she bought last year .

for a pro model i would get nothing but a 7200 rpm hard drive

Don't give up on the liquidmetal body yet. Apple sometimes implements major changes to just one laptop size. Perhaps this time only the 17" will receive the overhaul to the body?

I have to admit I'm a little disappointed with the display resolution. I thought the days of 1280x800 would be behind us.

Here's a closer look:

Calling fake now - at least on the port photo.

So if this proves true, and you want to use an external monitor and Lightpeak peripherals, you'll have to use some kind of Y cable with a minidisplay port adapter on one side to connect up to whatever your monitor offers (which probably isn't MDP) and a light peak adapter on the other side (since the connector isn't MDP shaped)...

Makes sense.

well i imagine they will start "hubbing" cinema display (those pesky mac kids not buying an :apple: monitor)

So why would they go Unibody > Plastic > Unibody?

Don't ask me, the pictures are probably fake. There's a bigger chance that they'll go back to the unibody, than decreasing the specs. I could imagine the specs beeing true, for.. let's say a new 13" Macbook, but the pictures of the computer it self is just.. fake imo.

I hope you people understand, that there's no way in hell that this is the Pro model. MAYBE the original white Macbook upgrade, but NOT a pro model.

Yep, that's what I said a few pages back ;)

If this the "pro"-model, Apple might as well ditch the computer business.

Who the hell cares about a camera?

I'd rather a higher resolution screen anyday.

I am not sure that would be practical. The thunderbolt port will only support 10Gbps. The standard 27" ACD would use up a vast majority of that bandwidth. (FYI - 2560 × 1600 × 30 bpp @ 60 Hz uses 10.46Gbps). So let's assume that 2560 × 1440 × 24 bpp @ 60 Hz uses 8Gbps. Adding other peripherals on top of the video stream would be very challenging (but possible) with this first iteration.

Well here's to hoping this is the replacement to the white Macbook..
Exactly. Because I definitely don't think this is fake. The launch is so close that you can smell it, and I'm sure these specs have started trickling out to retailers by now.

At least the 13" display is somewhat comforting. That keeps my hopes up that this is merely the MacBook. And that they're finally ditching the plastic enclosure for it, making it basically a budget MBP instead of an own tier. I think they have actually already started diverging these two product lines in the past few models, so this would be a natural and good change if true.

The Intel HD Graphics 3000 is new. Also, the 13" MacBook/Pro has never had dedicated graphics.

Whatever the trade name for Light Peak is, I would hope that Apple uses the regular trademarked name and not make one of their own.

Thunderbolt is a game changer. It s the most important thing. Sure SSD and maybe higher resolution display can be ordered as CTO/BTO.

I was hoping to buy a Superdrive less macbook pro, but anyway it is a ncie update. i5 on a MBP 13" is AWESOME. Current MBP13" is the best selling Mac notebook, and this update will boost sales again. 1280x800 is still fine and GMA (which usually sucks) HD 3000 seems quite equivalent to 320M so not a big loss.

Liquid metal? Cmon it is too early, how in the world could Apple mass produce netbook with Liquidmetal now? It will take time imho.

fake!

is it just me or wouldnt it make any sense to combine mini displayport and light peak in one connector? that way you could not plug in your external light peak hard drive at home to watch movies or pictures over your external display or TV

****ing hell.

1280x800

Really. Really? If this is not a fake, then thats just pure ****.

Also, integrated graphics . Ha ****ing ha

Yeah... again, makes sense. Apple is not known to go for practical when it comes to peripheral connections. Ports is their one weakness in my eyes (the MBA port arrangement is especially awful and doesn't quite work well with their own ACD cable...).

I would never buy a ACD, not for lack of funds, but rather because my needs don't require me to have a 999$ IPS display. 2 200$ TN panels offer more real-estate and "fine" quality for coding/Unix work.

Not sure about our American friends here :)

But coming from the UK. Thunderbolt does sound a very tacky and cheap sounding name. The type of thing a low end cheap maker would put on something to make it sound flashy. Like flames painted down the side of a crappy car.

It's not a elegant, sophisticated name in the normal Apple clean style.

It more the like the names graphics cards are given for the young techies.

The Ultra Turbo Mega Thunderbolt 3 card

A good reason for thunderbolt branding:

If there is a tiered implementation of light peak, the first one being copper interconnects and the second one using actual fiber optic, maybe they are calling this one thunderbolt and the other one lightning bolt when it rolls out? rather than firewire 400 and 800?

Just a possibility for the lame name
