I've been having recurring kernel panics for the last year or so. It usually happens 1-2 times each month.

9 out of 10 times, it happens when I'm away from the computer. I think it's related to the internet sharing feature or the airport adapter.

My setup looks like this: Internet <- VPN connection <- Ethernet <- Wireless sharing/routing

One time when I was going to activate airport and the internet sharing via the menu bar, it happened instantly.

I would be very grateful if someone could point me in the right direction.

Here's the most recent log:

While searching for a solution to this problem, I found out that the Cisco VPN kernel extension is known to often cause kernel panics.

I happened to have this kernel extension on my system (CiscoVPN.kext).

After deleting it, I haven't had a single panic for several days now.

So far so good... :)

Glad you got it sorted out. It would be helpful if you post back in another month to confirm the kernel panics are gone for good...

How to remove CiscoVPN.kext ??

Can you provide more details about removing the file CiscoVPN.kext?
I have Cisco Anyconnect VPN client and I believe my 10.5.8 Mac Pro started crashing with Kernel Panics soon after installing the VPN client.

Can you continue using the VPN client if you remove the file? Where is the file located. Do you just remove it and reboot? Does VPN still work?

You probably won't be able to use the client if you remove the kext file.

I don't remember where it's located - do a search for it.

I basically just deleted it and rebooted my machine. I don't know what kind of VPN connection you have, but the one I'm using works fine with the built-in VPN client (although I must say it's very limited).

If you want to remove the kext, you should probably remove the Cisco VPN client entirely. You can do that following the instructions at http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/security/anyconnect-secure-mobility-client/116080-productqanda-vpnclients-00.html#anc3 (which also shows that CiscoVPN.kext is in /System/Library/Extensions).

In my experience, Macs have not really needed the CiscoVPN client for a while, at least for IPsec access. The built-in VPN client works very well (System Preferences -> Network -> + to add a network interface -> VPN -> Cisco IPSec).
