I remember having the 1604 error - but I didn't have a white screen, it would just show the iTunes logo and nothing would load up. It happened because of a corrupt patch update and I've restored it many times but nothing really fixed it.

Then I found this TinyUmbrella program which kicked the phone out of "boot mode" or whatever and everything worked fine.

DFU mode won't mess it up. Your error 1604 is fixed by editing your hosts file.

Go to etc/hosts and comment out the gs.apple.com line.

That should clear up your reinstall of iOS. Good luck, i hope it works.

How would i do that?

Edit: Once in DFU mode and i try to restore i get 'error 21'

what are you trying to restore to?

I thought error 21 was associated with Recovery mode, while 1600 was DFU...

i suppose i could be wrong, but make sure youre in DFU and not recovery mode.

It occurs when i'm in DFU Mode

EDIT: 1600 errors occur when i'm in recovery mode, also i'm trying to restore back to 3.1.3 from 4.2.1
