New Flagship Apple Store Coming to Brisbane, Australia

As reported by MacTalk and News.com.au, Apple appears to be preparing to open a new flagship retail store in Brisbane, Australia. The revelation comes from development application filed with the city council that doesn't refer to Apple by name but clearly shows that the project is indeed an Apple retail store.
A review of the architectural drawings supplied show immediately recognisable hallmarks of Apple's retail style. Areas for the Genius Bar, Kids Corner and iPod and iPhone accessories can be found alongside Apple's trademark sugarmaple tables and characteristic stools. A section drawing showing the store's Queen Street frontage includes a coyly reserved square area for "internally illuminated store signage" directly above the entryway which will feature twin reconstructed glazed doors.

The project is said to encompass 2,000 square meters (~21,500 square feet), although one of the three floors of the facility will be dedicated to office space for the company. The location is a 1930s English Renaissance building in Brisbane's central business district.

Apple currently operates ten retail stores in Australia, including one in Chermside just outside of Brisbane and one in Robina about 50 miles from Brisbane in the country's Gold Coast region.

This is great! This is probably the best thing that could happen to this building. It was a mess over the last few months. Apple has a history of tastefully renovating historical buildings. Can't wait. For once we're getting something decent in Brisbane. :)

And even with the hassles of city parking, it will be infinitely better than making the trek out to the Chermside store. I guess it depends what side of town you're on though. I look forward to a thirty minute round trip instead of 90 minute round trip.

Sorry New Zealanders, South Australians and all those who don't have access to a real Apple Store. They are awesome. The first time I saw one in Osaka I nearly wet myself.

If it is any consolation to those who don't have an Apple store, I live in Melbourne where we have two (and an other one coming soon?) and I've never been there.

There are Apple specialists all over the place - they're just as good, just no fancy interiors.

Cool! That's Gen. MacArthur's Allied HQ building from WW2.

They're going to pull down a bunch of the more modern stuff and restore it back to how it was, then build the store. Nice.

I am kind of insulted this is a page 2 news story and not a page 1 story.
This will probably be Australia's most beautiful Apple store. And that's a mean feat cause all the Apple stores look good.

Oh well I shouldn't complain. Better page 2 then no page at all.

My Aunt and Uncle live just up the road from the Chermside store so every time I'm in Brisbane I visit the Chermside store, but I would defiantly catch a bus into the CBD to see this new Apple Store. I think it's cool the way Apple is using old pre war buildings around the world as their flagship stores.

I reckon if apple are going to make one in the melbourne cbd its going to be somewhere amazing like the old myer building facing melb central

i recommend parking at the convention centre and walking through southbank. cheaper than CBD parking and less hassle!

This'd give me a store nearer to where I am.

And it will also be the final the death-knell for the dreadful Mac1 store in the Valley. That used to be a great store, but then they got in a bunch of GenY snots who had an astonishingly arrogant attitude to operate the place. I've even been in the shop when I've seen staff actually SNARL at a customer, then belittle them when they left the shop. They were only there to pick up a repair that they'd actually already paid for. . The attitude was so bad I almost dropped the purchase I was making at the time, and walked out the door. I probably should have.

Chermside is a major pain to get to for their apple store, and the place is usually so full of schoolkids (not that the CBD wont be) that it's impossible to move. Usually staff there are so busy just keeping an eye on the kids they are more or less baby-sitting, that it's often hard to get service.

Brisbane CBD: Beautiful building too. I've got high hopes for these guys.

Shame about the great bookstore that used to be there. But oh well.

true say! i am closer to the robina store though - so ah well :)

I didn't know Apple store is a tourist attraction. though I must admit I went to check out the Apple Store when I went down to Sydney last year
