i dont have an ipod :)eek: haha) because i rarely listen to music. so im going to college next year and basically need something to record lectures. its going to be in a big room so i was debating to buy either 4th or 5th gen nano because if it end up that i wont be using it much, at least it has a great resale value. how is the sound quality of the ipod nano?

I own both the 4th gen and 5th gen Nano - they're by far the best nanos ever in terms of features and size.

The fifth gen is pretty good as a voice recorder. It records from the microphone next to the camera, so laying it face-down will probably get you the best recordings.

I don't have a 'Voice Notes' option on my 4th gen Nano. If it does have one, I'd suspect it only appears when a headphone with a mic is plugged in. The 4th gen nano doesn't ship with the microphone-enabled headphones.
