The new i7's CPU is definitely powerful enough for any task I throw at it (video editing, programming, etc).

However, the one disappointment is the Integrated Graphics Processor (the Intel HD3000).

If I hook up a TV to the Thunderbolt port and play video fullscreen (on the TV), the video isn't smooth.

To test this, I used the NHL's gamecenter website. I used Chrome (which has it's own "built-in" Flash player). If I use a MBP (with the Nvidia), the video displayed on the TV is smooth (just like broadcast TV).

If I use the Air, the video is definitely not as smooth (you can see it skipping some frames). If I *don't* use fullscreen on the TV, then the Intel HD3000 doesn't have any problems. It's just fullscreen. Frustrating.

If I'm not mistaken, it's a problem with Flash.

You may want to give version 11 beta a try, but I guess it'll be fixed in the coming months.

I'm hoping perhaps it is Flash. The 2010 Air had the same issue.

I think it's the graphics processor itself (Nvidia vs Intel 3000HD)

2010 Air had nVidia graphics. I'm pretty certain that it's either Flash or Chrome. I'm more leaning towards... both, because the version of Flash built into Chrome is kind of a non-standard version compared to the mainstream one that's released for other browsers.

Sorry, I was trying to say that I think the integrated graphic processors are what's causing this.

I agree that Flash is a dog, but when I view the same video stream using the MBP (with it's standalone Nvidia GT330M), there's no issue.

I did find these benchmarks: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1102927/

But it's hard to use just numbers from benchmarks like that given that it's not just the GPU that's different between the 3 in each of the MacBooks that use the respective processors.

I was playing some YouTube on my 1080P Samsung TV yesterday with my 2010 11" and it was extremely smooth and minimal fans at 1920x1080. I am still on the latest build of Snow Leopard, so do you think it has more to do with the new OS? Just asking because I am a little worried about upgrading right now or wait until Apple smooths out the kinks. Certainly the 2011 Airs should run even better than my 2010 Air.

I'm not sure what the deal is. Youtube also is fine.

Its just Flash being delivered fullscreen via the NHL Gamecenter website.
I'm sure it has to do with the stream's bitrate, Flash and the HD3000's ability to process all the video frames.

Your incorrect about the Intel HD Graphics. It was designed for this kind of stuff. Its 10000000 x better than 320m for video. Especially HTML5 but its so much better for video.

I realize that the HD3000 is better than the 320M from the 2010 Air.

But the 2010 Air (with the 320M) also exhibits this issue.

The 330M (discrete) does not. However, those are only in the MBP's

I was having similar issues, stuttering 1080p video playback while running flash video content in full screen mode on a dell 3008 wfp monitor with a native resolution of 2560x1600 . Decided to try out flash 11 beta in safari and the same videos are a lot smoother now. :D

On a side note my base 13" 2011 Macbook Air does produce smoother flash playback compared to my 2010 base 13" Macbook Air. I do love them both still!
