I just got a MacBook Pro today and I have Hitachai USB hard drive when I plug it on it asked if I can use it for time machine but there are a lot of Windows XP data on the hard drive..will Time Machine format it? I don't want to lose all of data.

Yes, Time Machine will reformat it as it needs to be in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) to be used for Time Machine.
