Is there a way to get the new ios 5 on the 1st gen ipod touch? when i hit "update" in itunes for the ipod touch, it says it has the latest firmware which is 3.1.3 or something.

how can i get ios 5 for this 1st gen ipod touch?

Apple stopped giving updates for that iPod 2 years ago and the successor of it a year ago.
Besides even if you got IOS5 it would be HORRIBLEY slow.
