I ordered an iPod mini 6gb a week ago monday and I've been tracking its progress ever since, comparing it to what's happened to other people. Google brought up this site several times in my hunt for experiences so I thought I may as well put mine up too.
I ordered it on the afternoon of Monday 7th. The apple site said that the item would be ready for dispatch in 24 hours but if I were to go for the custom engraving (which was free), it would take 5-6 days longer to get here. Fine I thought, that still leaves plenty of time to get it before I go skiing on the 19th. I ordered it and waited patiently. On the 9th I got an email informing me that the item had shipped. It was expected to take 7-8 working days to get to me.
Rriight. So that's already going to be quite a bit longer than they said *before* I ordered. By those workings I should get the item on Friday 18th or the following Monday.
I guessed that they would deliver on the Friday or before because companies usually seem to give over-estimated delivery times.
I tracked my item all the way from Shanghai by using the http://www.apecode.com website that I'd found by reading other people's experiences on here:

So on the 15th I started frantically checking to see what TNT Express were doing with it. Item 'not found' over and over again. I called up Apple to harass them a bit and to make sure they knew that I really needed to get it before the weekend as I wouldn't be here otherwise. They said it should go through pretty soon as once an item arrives in the Netherlands, it usually gets sent straight to the UK. So today, the 17th. Still nothing. TNT Express have been sitting on their arses doing absolutely nothing. My little iPod has been on a shelf doing nothing. Nobody's even bothered to scan it into their systems.
Upon calling Apple again, they now say that TNT's expected delivery date is now Monday or Tuesday next week and that I definately won't get it before then. There's no explaination as to why its been sitting around for days.
So basically TNT Express are very much NOT Express.
