iphone 4s and 720p 60fps video

So you can only shoot at 1080p? not even the choice of lower res?

Plus I was trying to play a 4 minute video on the Apple tv via Airplay, and the caching time is beyond ridiculous.

More than likly is will, jus need an app for it. My reasoning is that in iOS 5 the iPhone 4 and iPad 2 (perhaps more devices) now allow 720p video at 60fps to play on them.
And this make me happy!!!

I had tons of GoPro video at 60fps that my Mac is jut too old to handle swiftly. And the iPad wouldnt import the video as it was 60fps(unsupported). After iOS 5 update all my videos are now there!!! Hurray!! Now to confirm they will stay at 60fps after processing them.

You can't just "get an app" for something like this. Apple would have to update the phone's OS itself to get this sort of functionality. App Store developers aren't allowed access to the video-recording parameters, they may only access the pre-made video recorder provided by Apple.

No, we have fairly low level access to the video recording parameters, including video resolution + framerate. There would be no issue at all creating a 720p60 recorder, if the camera supported 60fps recording - which I think it doesn't (unless this is an API restriction). When I've tried 60fps before it's only output 30fps, at any rate.

Thank u for setting him straight, obviously he doesn't do much video on his iPhone.

Have u played with the 4s to see if 60fps is achievable?

I'm not totally sure, but I think I've tried it. At least I've tried it on the 4 and the iPad 2. There seems to be some software or hardware limit on all devices, if you try to set the framerate outside of a certain range (which tops out at 30fps) if ignores you and uses the default rate.

I need to experiment a little with framerate on the 4s for something else though, so I'll give it a quick go soon and report back if there's any change.

Yeah please do, I know before iOS 5 I couldn't even get 60fps video in the photo album but now I can do I tend to think apple has opened that up a the 4s may support it.

I stand corrected. I had been under the impression that we only had access to the exported/completed video file.

Just had a thorough testing session, no 60fps. It's capped at 30, either in hardware or the camera drivers somewhere. It won't even do 31. Tried in photo mode, video mode, various resolutions, no joy. Oh well.

I think so

I'm guessing that in the future the Jailbreak community will allow that. after the 4s jailbreak comes out that is.

If you have a jailbreak iphone 4s, you can shoot at 60fps! Myself managed to change the file system to come that! sorry for translation

What file did you change?

Modify this file "AVCaptureSession.plist" in the folder
1 : Root/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MediaToolBox/N94
with ifile or ssh!

2 : In avcapturesessionpreset1280x720p60/livesourceoptions
MaxFrameRate 60
MinFrameRate 60
TemporalNoiseReductionMode 0

and save

3 : And change file name AVCaptureSessionPreset1280x720p60 by AVCaptureSessionPresetHigh

I hope Apple would allow a 720p option. Most 1080p videos on YouTube look no better than their 720p versions.
A 60fps option would be amazing, as frame rate is king, when it comes to video.
A 720p video at 60fps, would(in my opinion) look better than a 1080p video at 30fps.

Having the option would be nice. The video quality on the 4s is really outstanding, but there have been a few times where I wished I could record 60 fps.

So the 4S hardware is not only capable of 720p 60fps video, there are even config parameters already in place for doing so, it simply isn't exposed in the Camera app? How is the quality? This would actually tempt me to jailbreak, which has never been something that's interested me before.
