I have been offered the original macbook (white one) 2.4ghz 2gb 160gb model for 400 pounds from a work mate that has hardly used it, i was considering buying it for my dad for christmas but wondered iff anyone knows how this measures up against the Air in terms of speed etc clearly our Airs look a lot better thanks in advance guys

The white MacBook is fine (I'm keeping mine, in spite of buying a new Air). Depending on how technically literate your dad is though, an iPad might be a better gift (my Luddite of a dad absolutely dotes over the iPad 2 I bought him).

Mine handles Elements ok (can be a bit slow) but I suspect the full Photoshop package wouldn't run too well.

Photoshop can run on that MB quite well, I had it for two years, though the resolution is abysmal for 12 MP photos and all the palettes. But it could handle the 12 MP RAW photos I threw at it quite well.
