Restore deleted text messages from iCloud backup?

Is there a way to recover deleted SMS (or iMessage) messages from the iCloud backup WITHOUT having to erase the whole iPhone and restore from factory default?

All the text messages for one correspondent accidentally got deleted by right swiping and tapping the red Delete button.

But doing a full restore is a hassle what with having to check that all passwords are filled in again and that all settings are back to the way they are...

Emails and voicemails both have trash bins where individual deleted messages can be recovered, it's too bad text messages don't?

All it takes is one swipe and one unfortunately placed tap.

There's a number of ways that it could happen, such as:

1. Kids
2. Screen wasn't off when shoved in pocket, purse, etc.
3. Screen wasn't off when absent-mindedly holding the phone with idle fingers (especially if you have a tick, or have the swiping and tapping motions ingrained in muscle memory)

Any news whether a trash bin for text messages (or something equivalent) is in the works for a future iOS update?

Alternatively, perhaps the iCloud.com website can be updated to allow access to (at least the useful parts) of the backup datasets, such as your texts, pics, etc.

Or even a Web Services (WSDL/SOAP) interface for 3rd-party apps, a la Amazon AWS?
