Agreed. Although I fully respected the man for his accomplishments, but setting a ship date for some sentimental reason is downright silly.

I agree. If Apple is in such a hurry for sentiment, the product will be half-baked. And Steve would come back to haunt the employees for such a decision. Otherwise, just make it better than the 2, & if Retina Display shows up on it, the Foxconn employees will never have another day off.

Not everyone will agree

I skipped the iPad 2 too give myself some time on the iPad and look forward to the iPad 3.

----------

Other than a better front-side camera and a slight bump on the back side I wouldn't expect the iPhone 4S camera for the iPad 3. People don't whip out their iPad to snap photos like they do a phone.

Our iPad makes a much better camera platform than our iPhone or HTC smartphones. My wife does prefer her HTC phone. It has a much larger screen than our tiny screened iPhone 4S but still the package is 1/3 thiner than the larger packaged iPhone 4S.

I like the iPad better. I can see the pictures that it takes. With my Tom Bihn carrying case I can carry my iPad all day without feeling it even being there.

After using multiple 30" displays with my Mac Pro I would think that 17" would be a very good iPad size. After purchasing several 17" PowerBooks & MacBook Pros I can clearly say that in my opinion 17" screen is too small for a real laptop. 24", 27" & 30" 16:10 ratio screened MacBook Pro models.

This sounds like a winner on both sides. 17" iPad & a much larger & more useful laptop working sized screens. Where & when can I purchase both. The next back to school special could be a free 17" iPad with the purchase of a new 30" MacBook Pro. I'm saving my $'s.

----------

We need to get more people involved in this process.
I love my 17" MBP, but a 30" MacBook pro would weight like 20 lbs. I wouldnt even consider it, and I don't think that many others would either.

Looks like I better sell the iPad 2 early so I can get a decent price for it.

Definitely want the Retina Dislay + Siri.

And a higher quality FaceTime camera. FaceTime HD would be welcome. The front camera has some good uses but is so poor in quality it's almost unusable.

Those sizes are too large for how close to your face they're used.

A 12-14" iPad would be nice.

A 20-22" Mbp would be nice.

Anything larger is too much for those products.

Wait why did that get downranked I wasn't flaming or spamming anyone. I was just suggesting a possible feature

You forgot to genuflect and make a sign of the Steve when you unhumbly made your petition.

Btw, I think it would be a great feature.

As far as downranking goes, I feel like I haven't done my job

4G LTE hopefully! Or else Apple messed up big time!

We've heard that one before. It's still not true, and it's looking like 2012 won't bring much in the way of LTE rollout...no where near the plans they had back in 2007.

If Apple sees fit, and I think they will, they will put off LTE until at least iPad 4 in 2013, followed by the iPhone in late 2013.

----------

You don't know what you are talking about. Johnny Ives was constantly pissed of at Steve Jobs for taking credit for his work. As a matter of fact they had to re-negotiate his contract a couple years back in order to persuade him not to leave Apple because he was so unhappy with the situation

Uh no, it disheartened him from time to time, but they were like hetero souls mates, and he mostly understood that Jobs wasn't taking credit for anything, but rather taking possession in order to sell it with 110% passion.

But now with this form over function thing that Apple uses there is not room for a keyboard with a numeric keypad even on the 17" MacBook Pro, even though HP has managed to do that even on 15" models. This lack of function requires me to carry either a numeric keypad of generally a full sized keyboard. It seems like Apple has gone past the minimum. We need a little more where function has a little more say so in the form part rather than making the form being the only important part.

My relatives left Europe in the late 1800's. I am glad of that. I have no longing to go back. They left with good reason & stayed for an even better reason. Here we can have it the way we want. We can have it simple if we want, which I give no credit to Europe for. Usually not wanting to show off is more of a reason. Just follow the KISS way of doing things. I was always taught that KISS, keep it simple stupid, idea is best. In that way you could have more without consuming more.

It seems that Europe is great at getting the rest of the world to go to war & come back & die for them. I guess that it is easier for you to ask those that left for freedom of choice owes you in both lives & materials. Maybe we would have had a better life if we would have let Hitler have his way. The Soviet Union under Stalin still needed much war material to do do their part is winning the war in the East. Maybe we could have had a Soviet take over of Europe. Then you could be a little more socialist than you are now. Then you could have a few less freedoms than you now have. Many people gave their live for the freedom of Europe in the 1930's & 1940's. But without the lives of many from the US would that effort have gone in vain?

Simple style was not patented or thought of by the Europeans. I'm sure that this is the normal way for things to be designed worldwide. So do not claim that simple is a European design first. Just read your Bible or other book that includes early history & find out where simple was fitst used.

I've no idea what medication you are on at the moment :)

I'm just saying Apple now owes more to someone from the UK to tidy up the look of it's products than anything.

I don't know why it needed someone from the UK to go that for them. Why did they not design great stuff on-house in the 1st place.

I hate form over function.

I'm no Apple Hater or Apple fanboy (heck I own almost no Apple products), but I follow what they do because they sometimes do interesting things. Personally I don't buy products if they are trendy, popular, or from A particular brand, I buy them because they have features I want and need and are prices I can afford and so far the iPad has yet provide features I want if Apple made a optional pressure sensitive pen then the iPad would be something I would consider buying. Anyways I never quite understood why Apple fans would think it would be a bad thing to offer optional features/configuration or "Choice", it never seems to occur to them that other people want different things out of their technology. Heck technology is an extension of yourself and is very personal in this day and age, just look at all the flame wars it causes. Apple fanboys always try to say oh you don't need that feature or nobody wants it. Very frustrating indeed. Hey if Apple suddenly introduced that particular feature it would suddenly be magical or amazing.

A Dear Glorious Dead Leader Memorial Birthday Edition.

Just when you don't think things can get any scarier, they get absolutely bat s___ crazy terrifying.

Just this week, we received news of the death of North Korea's Kim Jong Il. We have also seen some pretty ridiculous photos and news reports of some really bizarre acts of mourning from/by the citizens of North Korea. Personally, I just thought that most, if not all, of those stories were nothing more than State sponsored propaganda. However, after seeing and reading some of the comments (regarding the death of Steve Jobs) on this website and others... I am beginning to believe that perhaps those stories really are true. Many people are also treating Steve Jobs' passing in some very similar ways. Both men (Kim Jung Il and Steve Jobs) are being deified, as though they were Gods instead of just men. It really is fascinating to observe.

Don't Rush It!

Please Apple, PLEASE! Don't rush out a half-baked product for something as ephemeral as a tribute to Steve Jobs. If you want to honor the man, put out a finished product that won't be relying on software updates to attain full functionality.

There's no profit in customization of hardware in a mobile device, and barely room in portables and desktops for configuration of options.

If wide choice is something you consider important, then you are probably closer to the demographics of Android users than iOS, and maybe even ideal for Windows Phone. Note that most Android OEM's aren't setting the world on fire with profits, so medium and long term support of your product might not be a possibility.

What you write is complete rubbish. First the difference that more than 99% of all the people who care about Steve Jobs are absolutely free to state their opinion of him, whatever it is (company employees are usually not allowed to say things that reflect negative on their company), while 99% of all the people who care about Kim Jong Il would be in deep trouble if they criticized him. Second, Steve Jobs actually made Apple a very successful and rich company, while Kim Jong Il was responsible for millions of people starving. Third, your opinion that "Steve Jobs is being deified" is complete and utter crap.

Heck, why would they call it an iPad 2S if there are huge changes? The 'S' addition is only used when there is a really small update (camera, processor + software).

A retina display definitely isn't a small upgrade. As Apple said during the WWDC 2010 keynote: even if the only upgrade in the iPhone 4 was the retina display, than this iPhone woul still be the biggest upgrade ever.

This my guess for the third-generation iPad:

Release date: February-April 2012
Announcement: about two weeks before release
Display: LED-backlit with 2048*1536 resolution (LCD IPS)
Name: iPad 3
Processor: A6 processor (one of the two: 1) Dual Core but higher clocked and more RAM 2) Quad Core and more RAM)
Cameras: front: 2 megapixel, FaceTime HD - back: 3-5 megapixel without flash
iOS: iOS 5.1
Siri: not sure, but for now I think "no" (Apple has never included Voice Control with their iPads).
Battery: 9-11 hours
Connectivity: UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz), GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz), LTE (unknown)
Bluetooth: 4.0
Location Services: 3G/4G-model only, GPS and GLONASS
Storage: either 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB OR 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB
Pricing: $499, $599, $699 (+$130 for 3G/4G)

I also believe they will keep the iPad 2 around as the 'budget iPad' for $399. This will be the current iPad 2 as we know it. It will be either a 8 GB model or 16 GB model (depending on what storage the $499 iPad 3 will have).

Have to agree. Apple use a very UK/European design in their products now, and very un American

Strange isn't it, that American look upon a UK/European minimal style as a think they love and they don't like the "American Look" on tech devices.

It's not rocket science. Just keep it simple, plain, neat and tidy (or look in an Ikea Catalogue)
Being from the UK myself I have never like the American "Throw everything at it and hope it sticks" design approach. Even as a child, show me an old america car with curves and wings or a Harley Davidson and I'd almost throw up.

Strange, as again, that was/is all form over function again, but in the wrong way.

Hey now, American cars weren't always bad. Personally, lots of great designs were coming out in mid 60's.

Now, isn't that a beauty? :- )

p.s.

America certainly had their fair share of crappy car design. But all isn't that bad.

Wow, as a European I just feel obliged to respond to this guy below.

Okay.

Well, it would be a bit odd if you - as an American born in America - would want to 'return' to Europe. You've probably never been there, and if you have probably only for a short period in a specific region.

Well, probably like most immigrants: get a better life.

And you can't in Europe (or in most other, richer parts of the world)?

[qutoe]We can have it simple if we want, which I give no credit to Europe for. Usually not wanting to show off is more of a reason. Just follow the KISS way of doing things. I was always taught that KISS, keep it simple stupid, idea is best. In that way you could have more without consuming more.
Who do you give credit? Certainly not the Americans. It's not like "simplicity" was 'discovered' somewhere in the past 500 years.

And oh, Americans are, for a big part, European (and African, and Asian).

Wow. Nice thing you are doing here. First you tell us we cause all wars in the world and than you want to make us feel bad by saying we still have a lot to thank to the US.

I first want to 'battle' this claim of "It seems that Europe is great at getting the rest of the world to go to war & come back & die for them."
I don't want to be a big pain in the ass, but a lot of big wars since World War II were started, or heavily influenced, by the Americans. To name a few examples in the past few years... Afghanistan, Iraq and more recently Libya. The Afghanistan and Iraq wars were completely started by the Americans and caused more damage than good. You dragged us along in those ridicilous wars and I sincerely hope European governments will think twice before they answer a request of the US to help fight in another war somewhere in the near future (I suppose Iran). The Libya 'war' was a big innitiative by the US and while I can not deny that Europe was more like a 'co-founder' of this war, the cause was the US (and not the 'revolution').

So in short: don't say Europeans are the causes of most wars in the world, because that's definitely not the case. In the past decades, it's safe to say America caused more people in the world harm than any other country.

Now, that second part where you are trying to make us feel guilty: you do realize that the biggest reason to help Europe was not to help, well, us but to avoid that Europe would become communist? A big part of the world was communist in those days and the only allies America really had was Western-Europe.

If Western-Europe became communist (make no mistake, Eastern-Europe already was communist), than that would be a huge blow in the face for the American government. And they, the government, knew the United States would follow (America was, at least at that time, unable to fight communism at it's own).

Sure, you 'rescued' us but it was also more of a selfish act.

And who is to say life would have become so bad if, let's say, Hitler would have won the war? Oh, that reminds me of something: Europe is NOT one big country you know? Every country in Europe has a very different culture and it's own government and (military) powers.

The only thing Hitler wanted to do is to make life better for the German people. In truth, Hitler's idea were good. His execution of these ideas was bad.

Again, nobody really cares where the style of simplicity was first used. It certainly were not the Americans. And it weren't the Europeans as well. I suppose somewhere in Asia (China, Japan, Indonesia, India - that region).

I don't own a bible. I'm a 'non-believer'. The idea of God was nice for the time being, but hey, humans are becoming smarter and it's time to step off the idea of God to explain everything.

----------

Mhhh i think that the A6 is a quad core processors, so there won't be a dual core.
The retina display is now considered from Apple a small upgrade because it's a 2 years old technology, even if we are talking about bigger screens.
Trust me, the name will be iPad 2S. This year iPad 2S and iPhone 5 and a partly-renewed Mac series.
