Disk Utility Help?

Hello,

Got a copy of Win 7 and am trying to install a partition with bootcamp. Issue is, when I put in the install disk, the optical drive repeatedly revs up and slows down and disk utility beach balls on me. After about 2 minutes finder pops up saying the disk is blank, and disk utility only lets me eject the disk.

I tested the disk on a pc and a 2011 MBP with snow leopard on it, and both read it fine. The issue is only on my Mid 2009 MBP with lion.

I tested a few other DVD's in the drive which all run, and I just burnt a CD without any issues, so I think the drive is fine? I checked software update, and it says all software is up to date.

My disk utility is Version 12 (346).

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated :) Thanks!

When trying to mount a windows install dvd (other dvd's work just fine) I get a kernel error and it keeps trying to mount the disc. Here is some output from console:

Some of those Windows format disks lack a UUID. Disk utility will handle that, but perhaps you have some other App such as iTunes or a DVD player set to take action when a DVD is inserted?
Check your media play stuff, and be sure nothing is set up to automatically try to handle a disk format it isn't prepared for.

I get the same problem in Windows (it worked eventually once) and when I try to boot directly from the disc. Other computers seem to work fine.

Have you tried using a head cleaner on your DVD drive?
It sounds like the 2009 Mac really is having troble reading the disk, as opposed to software issues, and DVD optics can get dirty enough to cause problems over the course of 2-3 years.
