Does anyone know of a stylus that is made for better writing? Something with a more pointed tip?

I have notes plus and pen ultimate, but they are rendered useless because the stylus is too big at the tip. Comes out like chicken scratch.

Doesn't exist. If you aren't married to iOS the Android 4.0 specs include stylus support. HTC and Lenovo have a couple of tablets out that support pen input already. Very good prices ($230ish) can be found for the HTC Evo View. No contract required, but can be signed up with Sprint for 3G/4G connectivity if you wish.

iPen

This is a new KickStarter project that has been fully funded and should be available in January, I think. It may not work for every application out of the box, but for the ones it works with now, it looks great.

Funny how you posted this thread. I'm actually in midst of developing one and am currently in the process of researching it/developing blueprints. If all goes well and if it actually works (without constant rubber bending), I will release it to the market. However, I doubt that will happen within the next 3-6 months.

the best stylus i've found for note taking is the Jott Pro: http://adonit.net/product/jot-pro/

also using an app like noteself or notability helps with the process as well.

I've found this one takes a bit of getting used to, and you need the right notepad software that will let you turn off wrist inputs. But of the ones available right now...its closest to the feeling of writing with a ball point pen.

I have a Jot Pro. It (and a similar design from Dagi) use a "point" contact surrounded by a transparent plastic collar that enables the capacitive screen to register a mark. Unfortunately, many users, myself included, have found that the connection between the collar and point can be broken, resulting in missed strokes. The problem can become so great that the stylus is literally unusable.

There are, however, a couple of fixes. One is to clean the tip and collar with dish washing liquid. This often clears up the problem, at least for awhile. If it doesn't work, a second fix is to place a tiny dab of conductive grease on the tip of the stylus. (You can get the stuff online or at a hardware score.) That seems to eliminate the problem.

I'm waiting (like a bunch of others) for my eStylus I backed on Kickstarter to be shipped. You can find details here:

Hopefully it comes soon as I've yet to find a stylus that's useful as well.

I am hoping that the iPad 3 has better pen support. Oops, I meant ANY pen support! Apple is getting trumped with pen support on the Androids, they need to loosen up and get with it!

The iPad would require completely different screen technology. More costly and heavier.

I tried a bunch of styluses with my Ipad 2 but unfortunately, none of them worked as well as I had wanted them to. I tried stuff from pens by Pogo and Belkin to a really fancy one from beststylus.com. I liked the best stylus Hyannis model in terms of weight, feel, and build quality but it was really expensive and still didn't give me the accuracy and sensitivity I wanted on the iPad.

Unfortunately, its more a limitation of the iPad itself rather than any sort of stylus.

You may find this article helpful though: http://www.imedicalapps.com/2011/02/ipad-stylus-review-best-handwriting-touch-screen/

note taking

I never tried to take notes with a stylus. It is true that the iPad has become my tool, I use Beesy, I can take notes directly to easily share my data.
