Won't happen. Just not the way Apple operates. They release products once a year basically on the same schedule every year. They have never released products based upon what other manufacturers do. Plus they wouldn't release new iPad's and iPhone's so close together. And the iPhone 5 will be released towards the Fall.
This is just not true. Apple updates many tech products more than once each year. And you can't recognize any pattern in only 2 iterations. For example, I know a woman who had a baby at 15 and another at 45. If she wants to have a third, it won't automatically- and only- make sense that she waits until she is 75.
Apple released the orig
TV in 2007. We got a new one is 2011. Does it only make sense that the next one could not arrive before 2015?
I recall so many posts that pegged the iPhone as absolutely launching at WWDC in June. And then it didn't. Now it seems the crowd generally expects the new "annual" cycle to be Fall to Fall. How quickly that more than 2-time iteration has been evolved by Apple simply launching something when they want to launch it.
The pattern of Apple's product launches is no pattern. They launch when they want to launch. For what- 7+ years- Apple released a bunch of new tech at the Jan Macworld. As far as I know that was the most consistent pattern of product launches Apple has ever had. Then, it changed. In spite of 7+ consistent years of new Apple tech launched at MacWorld, does ANYONE think Apple will launch new tech at this years MacWorld?
There is a general perception that new stuff launches on TUE. But sometimes, it's WED. And sometimes FRI. I owned Apple Pages & Keynote '08 in 2008, and Pages & Keynote '09 in 2009. I can still only buy Pages '09 in 2012:

iPad 1 launched in March. iPad 2 launched the following March. There is no pattern there. If I flip a coin and get heads 2 times in a row, it doesn't means I'll get heads every time I flip it thereafter.
iPad 3 will launch when Apple wants to launch it. That may be in March, or sooner or later. iPad 4 will launch when Apple wants to launch it. That could be in 2011 or 2012. Sometimes Apple updates lots of tech in a short period of time and sometimes they wait (too) long to update stuff (I'm looking at you Mac Pro).
The possibility of 2 iPad models launched in one year is only "dumb", "they'll never do it", "it makes no sense", etc until Apple launches 2 in one year. Then, none of you will call Apple dumb, "it makes no sense", etc for choosing to do that. Our perception of a pattern will simply evolve.
